GMC Prep did not have to look far at all to find the replacement for departed head high school football coach Steven Simpson.
The school formally announced Thursday that Lee Coleman has accepted the position. Those in GMC circles ought to be at least somewhat familiar with Coleman since he has served on the GMC junior college football staff as the wide receivers coach since coming on board in February 2014.
A native of Gainesville, Ga., Coleman is a graduate of East Hall High School where he helped the school’s basketball team win state championships in both 2003 and 2005. After finishing high school, Coleman went on to play football at Northwestern University where he lettered and played for the Wildcats. He would go on to graduate from Northwestern with his bachelor’s degree in education and social policy.
After college, Coleman went on to become an academic graduate assistant at the University of Pittsburgh for a little over a year before working on the staffs at both Arizona State University and the University of Arizona.
In addition to his new head coaching duties, Coleman will also serve as the weight room instructor at GMC Prep.
