The Cordell Events Center on the campus of Georgia Military College will host the Old Capital Classic basketball tournament, sponsored by the 100 Black Men of Milledgeville-Oconee Area, Inc.

Six boys’ teams – Tucker, Saks (Alabama), Thomson, Monroe, Putnam County and GMC – as well as four girls’ teams – Saks, Westover, Putnam County and GMC – will take part in the two-day event.

On Wednesday, the Lady War Eagles will take on Saks at 3 p.m., followed by the War Eagles’ game against Thomson at 4:25 p.m. The Bulldogs will play Saks at 5:50 p.m., followed by the Lady Bulldogs game against Westover at 7:15 p.m. The feature contest will have Tucker taking on Monroe. Tucker lost in the championship game of the Class AAAA state tournament last season.

On Thursday, games will get under way at 1 p.m. with the girls’ squads from Saks and Westover playing each other, followed by the boys from Saks taking on Monroe at 2:25 p.m. At 3:50 p.m., the Bulldogs will take on Thomson, followed by the Lady Bulldogs contest against the Lady War Eagles at 5:15 p.m. The War Eagles will get their shot at Tucker at 6:40 p.m.

Also on Thursday, the players will take part in academic sessions from 10:50 until noon to help them prepare for the SAT and ACT.

Admission for the games cost $6 for students for one day and $10 for both days. Cost for adults is $10 for one day and $15 for both days.
