EATONTON, Ga. -- Lake Country United FC (LCUFC) starts its soccer season this coming weekend, Sunday, Aug. 4 when two of the club’s crown jewel teams will host teams from the Athens United Soccer Association. At 1 p.m. the LCUFC 04 Premier Boys Team (Classic III) will compete against Athens United 04 Gold (Classic I) Team. Coached by Juan Bustamante, the Athens United 04 Gold team did well last Fall (2018) where they competed in Georgia Soccer’s Classic II Division. LCUFC’s 04 Premier Team is made up of most of 2018’s 05 Premier Team which include Joseph Gilbert (Putnam County) and Colby Avery (Baldwin County) in the midfield, Lane Medders (Baldwin County) in goal, and Bryan Canales (Putnam County) at the wing. Some new 04 players have been added as well, including Ross Ellenberg (Morgan County), Cade Jenkins (Jones County), and more. William Ubah (Baldwin County) has also been added to the Premier team roster to anchor the back line.
“This team has worked hard to prepare for this 2019 season. We have a blend of players, ages and talent levels and the chemistry will take some time to form. This is going to be a good team,” said assistant coach Jamey Nichols.
LCUFC’s 04 Elite Team (Classic I) will face the Athens United 03 Gold (Boys) Team (Classic I) at 3 p.m. The 03 boys team from Athens had a fantastic season, being one of only 12 Classic I teams in all of Georgia Soccer and finishing in the Top 4. Matt Muia, who is also an assistant coach for the UGA Bulldogs women’s soccer team, is a tremendous coach with a notable track record of success, first as a gifted player and later as a coach. His teams are known to have excellent foot-skills and be strong in their possession play. LCUFC’s 04 Elite Team has returning this season: Tino Reyes (Putnam County), who has scored 47 goals in each of the last two championship winning seasons; goalkeeper Josue Lopez (Morgan County), who has allowed less than one goal per 90 minutes over the last 12 months; the dynamic duo at centerbacks Edwith Lopez (Putnam County) and Alan Perez (Putnam County); and the midfield crew will include Levi Ward (Baldwin County) and Yair Lopez (Putnam County).
“We are looking forward to the upcoming game vs. Athens United. Both teams have endured a tough summer schedule and we are excited to get our seasons started,” said Coach Tim Gilbert, head coach for both the LCUFC’s 04 Elite Team and Premier Team. “We have players on both teams from all over the Lake Country community. So, we are inviting the entire community to come out watch the games. These teams are full of talent and Sunday’s games will be very competitive and a lot of fun.”
The games will be played at the Putnam County Recreation Department main field (140 Recreation Rd, Eatonton, GA 31024), which the club has nicknamed the Impact Zone after the Club’s nickname – The Impact. The 04 Elite Team has not lost a home game since October 2017. The Putnam County Recreation Department will have the concession stand open for the game serving cold beverages and snacks, and the pitch looks fantastic and ready to be played upon.
