The Baldwin Jets youth track team has qualified 51 boys and girls for this weekend’s Georgia Recreation and Parks Association state championship.

The Baldwin Jets, the Baldwin County Recreation Department’s youth track and field program, have been treating the track like their own personal runway this season, and the young athletes will look to keep blazing a trail this weekend at the state competition.

The Jets, under longtime coach Barry Havior, qualified a whopping 51 boys and girls at the district meet, meaning Baldwin County will be well-represented at the state level in competitions across the different age groups. These young runners, throwers, and jumpers won’t just be competing in one event apiece either as many have qualified in three, four, and even as many as five events.

Michael Clayton, competing in the boys 11-12 age division made his mark at the district level by qualifying in five different events, three individual and the two relays. He’ll see how his 400-meter, 200-meter, and long jump results translate at the state level this weekend in addition to handling the baton a quarter of the way in both relay events. Kamora Renfroe, competing in the girls 11-12 group, will try her luck in the 100-meter, 400-meter, long jump, and both relays.

Beyond Clayton and Renfroe, Havior, or Coach Barry as the kids and parents know him, has a slew of young people competing in four events at the state level. Those include: Amari Baker (9-10 girls), Yana Bhalodwala (7-8 girls), Labraydon Burden (13-14 boys), Julian Council (11-12 boys), Tacara Curry (9-10 girls), Tavares Hooks (9-10 boys), Maquice Hunter (13-14 boys), Quantavious Jones (11-12 boys), and Jared Mundie (11-12 boys).
