The No. 8 Georgia College baseball program and head coach Nolan Belcher have announced the addition of Justin Baker as the new pitching coach for the 2021 season.
“I would like to welcome Justin Baker to Georgia College,” says Belcher. “His passion for coaching and high character will make him a great addition to our team and athletic department. Coach Baker is a low-maintenance guy who brings high productivity to everything he aims to achieve. We are so fortunate to have Coach Baker in Milledgeville.”
Baker arrives at Georgia College from Florence-Darlington Technical College in Florence, South Carolina, where he served as the team’s pitching coach from 2019-2020. Baker has helped develop pitchers and during the 2020 season led Florence-Darlington pitching staff to the lowest ERA in the country with a 2.28.
Baker, a graduate of the College of Charleston, holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology. He played for the Division I Cougars from 2015-2018. Baker served as a relief pitcher, with a 1.59 ERA and a 37/6 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He joins Belcher on the Georgia College staff, as the team starts the 2021 campaign at No. 8 in the nation.
“I'm thankful for Coach Belcher giving me this opportunity to be a part of such a historically great University, both in the classroom and on the diamond,” says Baker. “I'm eager to learn more about the State of Georgia, which is known to have some of the most competitive baseball in the country. I am happy to be here in Milledgeville, and ready to get work.”
The 2021 season begins Saturday, Feb. 13 at 4 p.m., with GC traveling to Francis Marion University.
