Letter to the Editor

In the 9/6 edition of The Union-Recorder, Peter Boylan wrote a letter complaining about the lack of code enforcement within the downtown area. I agree. Our City Council has no problem passing ordinances but they are only passing them to save face and say that they did 'something'  and most violations are never enforced. Want to see a REALLY GOOD example of failure to enforce code violation? Drive on over to Doles Boulevard right downtown 0.3 blocks from City Hall. Better yet, ask the Tourist Trolley to ride you over here. Bet they wont. Wouldn't want any tourist to see how city leaders have let our inner city neighborhoods develop into college slums. And by the way. That big old house at the corner on Montgomery and Elbert that was promised to be sorority-only. Guess what? Frat City. (Good job on the remodel, though). While I'm at it what ever happen to historic preservation? There was a time 30 years ago when my wife and I were living on Jackson Street we received complaints because we left a box on our front porch two days after our move. Several years ago while attending a City Council I overheard the REAL REASON that city Council and local enforcement really don't care and look the other way when it comes to enforcing rental ordinances, etc...  "Georgia College is all we got  “DON'T MAKE WAVES.”
