In the June 27-29 weekend edition of The Union-Recorder, the editorial headlines were "Public needs to know dangers, information on COVID-19 surge."
This encouraging editorial is in contrast to the photo on the front page of the June 24 issue in which there were of over twenty of our elected officials along with volunteers who were not socially distanced and of that group, less than five are wearing masks. This speaks poorly of our leaders who may think they are exempt from this terrible virus. Citizens are not encouraged to take precautions when they do not see the leaders in our community taking the lead. While we emphasize our freedom of choice, this issue is not a political one; it is a serious health issue of which no one is exempt. Everyone needs to protect others and oneself by wearing a mask along with social distancing. Our health care workers need our cooperation, too.
Upon returning home from an outing, do not throw masks and gloves out the window. As a walker, I refuse to pick them up and am seeing an increase in this kind of littler along our roadways. Protect yourself, others and our public property.
