I turned 69 this past week, which means only one thing: the countdown is on. As of Saturday it's T-minus 362 days until I hit the big 7-0.

It also means that I'm old enough to remember:

-- Meadowlark Lemon playing for the Harlem Globetrotters.

-- Lester Maddox, Carl Sanders and Herman Talmadge.

-- JFK, LBJ and MLK.

-- Muhammad Ali when he was Cassius Clay.

-- Bruce Jenner before he became Caitlyn Jenner.

-- Billy Graham's Crusades, and George Beverly Shea singing "Just As I Am."

-- John and George are gone, but Paul and Ringo live on.

-- When Baldwin High School was still across the street from Bonner Park.

-- David Pearson and Junior Johnson, but we've still got national treasure Richard Petty.

-- Animal House, Caddyshack and Rudy.

-- O.J. Simpson (he's on parole and living in Las Vegas), Johnny Cochran and Robert Kardashian.

-- The Marlboro Man, the Speedy Alka Seltzer figure and the Wendy's "Where's the Beef?" woman.

-- Western Auto, Butts Drug Co. and Rose's Five and Dime in downtown Milledgeville.

-- Pontiac Bonnevilles, Ford Pintos and VW bugs.

-- Hank Aaron, Biff Pocoroba and Phil Niekro.

-- Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris and Whitey Ford.

-- Reynolds Allen, James Baugh and Walter Williams.

-- Dennis the Menace, My Favorite Martian and Disney's Wonderful World of Color.

-- The Plow Boy, Burger Chef and Grant's Restaurant.

-- Timothy Leary, Timothy McVeigh and Tiny Tim.

-- Andy Griffith, Don Knotts and Francis Bavier.

-- Elvis, Jimi and Janis.

-- Macon Mall, Neal's and Woolworth's.

-- Rawhide, Gunsmoke and Bonanza.

-- Howard Cosell, Jim McKay and Curt Gowdy.

-- Woodstock, the Byron (Ga.) Pop Festival and the Monterey Pop Festival.

-- Apollo 11: Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins have died, but we still have Buzz Aldrin.

-- Walter Cronkite, Eric Sevareid and Roger Mudd.

-- Foxy Brown, Jackie Brown and James Brown.

-- Farrah Fawcett, Mary Tyler Moore and Barbara Walters.

-- Erk Russell, Bobby Dodd and Pepper Rodgers.

-- The original San Diego Chicken, Mark "The Bird" Fidrych and Chief Noc-A-Homa.

-- Harry and Skip Caray. Thank goodness we still have Chip.

-- Dizzy Dean, Pee Wee Reese and Schlitz beer.

-- Furman Bisher, Jesse Outlar and Lewis Grizzard.

-- Culver Kidd, Rusty Kidd and Tillie Kidd (Fowler).

-- Lassie, Rin Tin Tin and Alf.

-- Rocky and Bullwinkle, Quick Draw McGraw and Fred Flintstone.

-- Jake Scott, Bill Stanfill and Jimmy Orr.

-- Bacon Chevrolet, Simpson's Men's Store and Harold's.

That's one of the best things about getting older: new memories every day.
