The headline for The Union-Recorder Wednesday, Jan. 11, reported on the search for a new Chief of Police, which will cost more than $10,000. Doesn’t the city have a budget? Why spend this money when the city just appointed an interim chief? If he is more familiar with the city and its people, why go outside and then train a new person? The city must have excess money they need to spend. Hire from inside and allow for promotions.

The county just can’t stop finding ways to gouge its citizens. Our water bills were sent out and the addition was wrong for the total bill. Then a corrected bill came out with a new water rate, and if it is not paid by the 25th, then a $50 cut-off fee will be added. If this keeps up, last minute adjustments, the citizens will not have enough money left to pay for food and heating. Oh, the county is not in the food or heating business. I guess we can relax. We can’t afford the convenience centers any more, so just add a garbage pick-up fee and close the centers.

Everyone says that we must budget our money to make ends meet. We just don’t see these rate increases coming and cannot budget for them, such as gas increases and food increases. I guess that is why so many are losing their houses and moving in with their parents. That looks like the future, combining families.
