Martha Helen Kostyra Stewart, an American retail businesswoman of Polish descent, is also a writer, and a television personality who gained success through countless business ventures to include publishing, broadcasting and the selling of specialized merchandise.

Her brand named merchandise began selling in Kmart and Sears, but since those businesses have collapsed, the items are now available in countless other retail outlets.

She is the founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, and in 2020, her worth was estimated at $400 million; she was the first self-made female billionaire, but subsequently lost a considerable amount of her wealth when she was found guilty of insider stock trading.

Martha served 10 months in prison, and while incarcerated, she taught crafting classes to the female inmates. When she was released, she returned to filming specials and enjoying her 153-acre home and gardens in Katonah, New York located in Bedford, Westchester County, named Cantitoe Corners.

She has famous neighbors, including Ralph Lauren and the parents of actor Richard Gere.

Stewart has authored numerous bestselling books, is the publisher of “Martha Stewart Living” magazine and hosted two syndicated television programs, “Martha Stewart Living,” which was broadcasted from 1993 to 2004, and “Martha,” which ran from 2005 to 2012. She hosts several cooking and baking shows on Public Television and a new concept featuring her personal gardens on the Home and Garden Network.

One of Martha’s famous projects was a place known as Turkey Hill, located in Westport, Conn., and her personal home for years. Some of the notable features included a large kitchen garden, various orchards and berry bushes by the dozen.

Turkey Hill, a working farm, was used to support her thriving catering business; she purchased an onion farm and turned it into a showcase and background for her businesses. The new owners credit Levi Froes, who worked with Martha Stewart for more than 20 years, for maintaining the gardens to the standard that Stewart set. On occasions, she visits her former home and checks on the farm that she created.

Alexis Stewart is the only daughter of the famous chef and publisher; she is 53 years old and the mother of Jude and Truman. She bought and renovated a motel in Bridgehampton and purchased a gym but did not enjoy dealing with the customers. For the last three years she and Jennifer Koppelman Hutt co-host a two-hour daily talk show called “Whatever With Alexis and Jennifer” on Sirius satellite radio.

She read the two volumes of “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” by Julia Child and then cooked every recipe in the books.
