The deputy said the woman told him that she was from Long Beach but had been staying with a local man for more than a month. Johnson said the woman told him that the man had regularly beaten her since she has been with him.

In the latest incident, the woman told the deputy she had been riding in a pickup truck with the man. The woman recalled that she asked the man to take her to her sister’s house in Atlanta because she didn’t want to stay with him any longer.

The woman said the man, who reportedly was intoxicated at the time, got upset and began pulling her by her hair and spitting in her face, according to the incident report. The man later threatened the woman with a gun. Johnson said the woman told him that was when she decided to jump out of the truck.

Afterwards, the woman said she ran down Allen Memorial Drive. The man supposedly abandoned the truck, got out and reportedly chased after the woman. A short time later, the woman said she heard what sounded like a “pop” and believes the man fired a shot at her.

Johnson said the woman was visibly upset but had no physical injuries that he could see.

The deputy said he and fellow deputies searched the area around where the pickup truck had been abandoned, but were unable to locate any shell casings. Deputies also looked for the man in the area, but never found him.

The truck was later towed away from the scene by a wrecker.
