A 49-year-old Milledgeville man died after his motorcycle collided with a tractor-trailer truck on U.S. Highway 441 on Thursday afternoon, authorities say.
The victim was identified as Wilrad Orlando Pounds, of an Allison Drive address, according to Baldwin County Chief Deputy Coroner Ken Garland.
The deputy coroner said he pronounced Pounds dead at the scene at 2:53 p.m.
Garland said the victim died from blunt force trauma.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory in Macon to determine the exact cause of death, Garland told The Union-Recorder.
The wreck happened near the John Deere Ag-Pro business shortly before 2:30 p.m.
The motorcycle-truck crash remains under investigation by troopers with the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Reconstruction Collision Team (SCRT) and troopers with the Georgia State Patrol post in Milledgeville.
An officer with the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicle Compliance Division is also involved in the investigation since the collision involved a semi-truck.
No further information was immediately available from authorities concerning the crash.
Officers with the Milledgeville Police Department, along with deputies from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office assisted troopers with traffic in the northbound lanes of the busy highway.
Traffic was snarled in the area for more than two hours.
