UPDATE (12:41 P.M.):
The 16-year-old found shot to death Saturday at an apartment complex in Baldwin County has been identified by local authorities.
Baldwin County Coroner John Gonzalez identified the victim as Cuatez Jones. The coroner said Jones had lived on and off in Milledgeville and other places with his mother, grandmother and friends.
The teen was shot to death at The Milledgeville Manor Apartments on Saturday afternoon.
And local authorities are attempting to run down leads as to who is responsible for the murder.
Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Detective Capt. Brad King said the shooting of the 16-year-old happened about 3:30 p.m.
When deputies arrived they discovered that the victim was deceased from multiple gunshot wounds, King told The Union-Recorder during a telephone interview Monday morning.
The shooting happened in a path that runs between The Manor and McKinley Street.
Baldwin County Coroner John Gonzalez pronounced the teen dead at the scene.
An autopsy was expected to be performed at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory in Savannah on Tuesday to determine the cause of death.
“We conducted a number of interviews that afternoon and followed some leads up,” King said.
King, who heads the sheriff’s office criminal investigations division, said special agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Unit were called to process the crime scene.
As of Monday morning, authorities had made no arrests in connection with the homicide case.
Asked whether authorities had established a possible motive for the shooting, all King could say Monday was that it was not gang-related.
“We’re still looking into an actual motive right now,” King said. “We’re asking anybody that knows anything about the shooting to please call the sheriff’s office.”
