SPARTA, Ga. — A 29-year-old Sparta man is being held in the Hancock County Law Enforcement Center in connection with the stabbing death of another man Sunday night, authorities say.
The arrest follows a wreck that happened just a few minutes after the man who died was stabbed at a residence on East Broad Street in Sparta, according to Mary H. Chandler, special agent in-charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 6 Office in Milledgeville.
Chandler identified the suspect as Bernard Hall. He was charged with one count of murder and one count of aggravated assault.
Hall is accused of having stabbed 34-year-old Renaldo Morris.
Chandler said deputies with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office responded to a wreck on Ga. Route 15 about 6:36 p.m. At the scene of the wreck, deputies learned that Morris had been stabbed a few minutes earlier.
At approximately 6:44 p.m., officers with the Sparta Police Department requested the assistance of the GBI to investigate an aggravated assault case at a residence on East Broad Street.
The preliminary investigation reveals that Hall stabbed Morris, who later died, Chandler said.
A short time later, Hall was taken into custody by GBI agents.
Chandler said Morris’ body was taken to the GBI Crime Laboratory in Decatur where an autopsy would be performed sometime soon to determine the cause of his death.
Meanwhile, Hall remains in the county jail without bond.
