EATONTON, Ga. — A 77-year-old Morgan County woman was killed following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 441 and Imperial Mill Road on Sunday night, local and state authorities say.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision was also injured.
The crash happened at 8:45 p.m.
Sgt. First Class Justin C. Howard, commander of the Georgia State Patrol post in Madison, identified the woman killed as Nina J. Cofer, of the 1900 block of Athens Highway, Madison.
Cofer was traveling along Imperial Mill Road in a 2016 Jeep Patriot Sport.
Howard said Cofer failed to yield to oncoming traffic on U.S. Highway 441 and pulled into the path of a 2005 Honda Accord driven by 21-year-old Estera Trifan, of the 100 block of Chalet Cove, Centerville, Ga.
Trooper First Class 3 Will Grier, who investigated the fatal crash, said in his preliminary report that Cofer’s vehicle was struck in the passenger’s side by the Houston County woman’s car.
Trifan was treated at the scene for various injuries by firefighters/first responders with Putnam County Fire Rescue and personnel with the Putnam County Emergency Medical Services. She was later to taken by ambulance to Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital in Athens.
Howard said Trifan’s injuries were non-life threatening.
