A 32-year-old Milledgeville woman apparently thought she was doing the right thing when she went after a man with a gun after he damaged the windows of her car last week, local authorities say.
As it turned out, she found out it wasn’t the right thing to do.
The woman was identified as Monica Lashae Davis, of the 100 block of Hardwick Street, according to an incident report filed by Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Deputy David King.
Davis, who was taken to the Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center after her arrest Wednesday, was charged with one count of aggravated assault.
The man involved in the case, who had not been arrested as of time of the incident report, is now wanted on criminal charges.
He was identified as 31-year-old Decassio Tremaine Myrick, of the 100 block of Baywood Drive, Milledgeville.
Myrick faces two charges — one for simple assault, and one for criminal damage to property in the second degree, according to the incident report.
King said in his report that he went to the Davis residence in reference to a call about damage to property and shots fired.
The deputy said while he was en route to the call that a 911 dispatcher received a telephone call from Davis’ daughter indicating that her mother had left the residence to follow the man who reportedly shattered the windows of Davis’ 2007 Kia Spectra.
King said while traveling to the call, he later spotted a man wearing a red shirt and walking along Irwinton Road.
“I immediately tried to turn around, but after I did the subject was gone from my sight,” King said in his report.
The deputy said he then went to the Davis residence where he talked with her and her daughter.
King said Davis told him that she had been involved earlier in a physical altercation with Myrick.
Davis said after she and Myrick argued and that he pushed her several times inside her apartment, and refused to leave after she told him to do so.
While in the process of leaving, Davis said Myrick pushed her again, which prompted her to go and get her handgun.
After she retrieved her gun, Davis told King that Myrick came at her again and pushed her the ground and she shot at the man.
Davis reportedly fired at least three gunshots.
