A deceased man’s body was discovered inside an SUV in the parking lot of the Kroger shopping center on Wednesday morning.
A joint death investigation is underway by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office and Baldwin County Coroner’s Office to determine what happened to the man.
The victim was identified as Kenneth Jeffrey Eliasen, of the 100 block of Floyd Avenue, according to an incident report filed by Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Melissa Condon.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by Chief Deputy Coroner Ken Garland.
The deputy said in her report that when she got to the scene, she talked with an Eatonton man about what he saw while meeting up with some of his co-workers to go to work.
“They all stated they looked over to the SUV and saw a man leaning over and thought he was asleep,” Condon said. “When they approached the (vehicle) to wake him up, they noticed he wasn’t breathing…”
They called 911 for help.
The deputy said when she arrived, the SUV’s engine was still running.
Inside the vehicle, the deputy said there were two empty pill bottles in the passenger side seat, according to the report.
When Deputy Lt. Nick Goddard got to the scene, he requested detectives.
Within a short period Detective Maj. Brad King and Detective Michael “Chris” Burrell were there to begin a death investigation.
As of Friday afternoon, authorities had not released any other information regarding the death investigation.
