The restaurant that has become synonymous with Sandersville over the years will open its second location in Milledgeville this week.
Store owner B.T. Walters said that patrons can expect the same level of service and hometown feel that The Dairy Lane is already known for locally.
The new location is slated for its public opening 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday.
Walters said the Milledgeville restaurant will feature the same menu choices as the original location, as well as other features the eatery is known for.
“We even have the old menu boards like everybody knows us as when you come in The Dairy Lane,” he said.
He said the goal was to time the store opening in conjunction with the opening of the Sandersville location’s new drive-thru. The plan is to have the Sandersville drive-thru open for about a week and a half before opening the Milledgeville location.
“The Milledgeville space has been ready,” Walters said. “We just have to get the drive-thru open in Sandersville first because we don’t want to have all that going on at once.”
The Milledgeville location is located at the old Church’s Chicken on North Jefferson Street. He said the location was a good fit as it was already equipped with a drive-thru. Walters said although the is new equipment, the building itself was already a great match.
He said that having a Milledgeville location was something he and his father had always had plans for before his father passed away in 2015.
“I always wanted to do this, and my dad had an idea to put it there as well,” he said. “It was one of those things we’ve been shooting for for a while. It just took us a while to find a location.”
Walters said he knows a lot of Milledgeville folks who drive to Sandersville regularly just to eat at The Dairy Lane. Many make it a Sunday ritual.
“It’s one of those places that everybody kind of knows.”
Since the Milledgeville store is located near the college, Walters said they will plan to stay open a little later. The Sandersville location is open until 10 p.m. on weeknights and 11 p.m. on weekends, while the Milledgeville location will stay open until 11 p.m. on weeknights and 2 a.m. on weekends.
He said both locations will also launch a new breakfast menu, which will include biscuits and gravy, sausage links, scrambled eggs and more.
Walters said initially when he took over the restaurant, the part he enjoyed the most was the challenge of doing it all while still in college. Now, he gains joy from being able to give Milledgeville patrons an experience that those in Sandersville have known and loved for many years.
“One of my favorite things is being able to expand to other people and let them have the staple of Sandersville be able to come to Milledgeville.”
The Dairy Lane Milledgeville is located at 620 N. Jefferson St.
