“The Home Team” has a lot to celebrate after winning two awards from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters recently.

Country 102.3, WKZR-FM Milledgeville, received a “Gabby” Award for Excellence for the best newscast. Additionally, “Panic at the Pump” won a Merit Award for the best news story.

“Our entire staff is part of our news department,” said station general manager Randy Beasley. “We also get tips from listeners and customers. But Jim Davis does much of the legwork for our local news, talking with local authorities and community leaders. He juggles the title of news director along with many others.”

Jim Davis was proud of the station’s accomplishments.

“For something I do on a semi-part-time basis, it was really thrilling to win it,” Davis said. “We thought that that was one of the best [newscasts], and that’s what Gabbys are for — your best work. It’s good to know that we’re considered the best in that category in the state.”
