County seizes restaurant’s contents

Baldwin County Tax Assessor’s Commissioner seized the Milledgeville Backyard Burgers location for delinquent taxes on the equipment.

Commissioner Cathy Settle said she secured the building’s contents for $2,900 in unpaid taxes.

“The tenants filed a personal property tax return last year and had also filed a personal property tax return for 2007,” Settle said. “Because the 2007 tax bills are not due yet, I have to do a jeopardy assessment. I’m basically trying to collect their 2006 assessment and do a jeopardy assessment for 2007.”

Financial difficulties caused the franchise holder to close the doors May 29, according to Mike Myers, spokesman for MCAP Restaurant Group LLC, the restaurant’s former tenant.
