The latest issue of Piano Guild Notes, the official publication of the National Guild of Piano Teachers based in Austin, Texas, has featured local pianist, Elle Hupp.
She was awarded the Diploma in Social Music from the Guild for her performance in an hour-long audition playing the music of Scarlatti, Beethoven, Lizst, Chopin, Grieg, Rachmaninoff and Gershwin, plus various "musicianship phases" such as transposition, improvisation, and sight-reading.
This publication is received in the U.S., Mexico, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Japan. The judge was Professor Duane L. Ream from Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C.
Hupp if the pupil of Dr. Stephen H. Barnes of the Barnes Piano Studio in Milledgeville, now going into its second decade of teaching area students of all ages and abilities.
Barnes noted that, "Elle is an inspiration to all of us in her ability to handle a professional career as a Starbucks manager and still conquer the time-consuming musical challenges of a truly heavy, heavy program. Kudos to her for her time-managing abilities."
Hupp was originally from Clearwater, Fla, but moved to Georgia when she was 12. Now 28, she graduated from Putnam County High School, earned her bachelor's degree in Psychology from GCSU and a master's in mental health counseling from NOVA Southeastern University. An honoree of the Dean's List for each of her semesters at both GCSU and NOVA, she was also an inductee in the Golden Key Honor Society. She joined Starbucks in 2015 and was a constant fixture at the Starbucks on Columbia Street here in Milledgeville, especially as she acquired more and more responsibilities. She has been promoted to Assistant Manger just recently and is based at the Starbucks in Macon. She honors her Mom, Ann, as her "best friend" here in Milledgeville and appreciates the support of her Dad who lives in Dunedin, Fla.
