A 38-year-old Milledgeville man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a woman with whom he has been living with for about two years, local authorities say.
The suspect was identified as Lawrence Collins Fogg, according to an incident report filed by Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sgt. Lee Kitchens.
Fogg, who was taken into custody shortly after the crime was reported, was charged with felony criminal attempt to commit rape and misdemeanor battery under the Georgia Family Violence Act, records show.
Kitchens said in his report that he was dispatched to a residence on the Cordell Road in regard to a 911 call for help. While en route to the residence, the deputy said a dispatcher informed him that based on what could be distinguished, a female caller was whispering for help.
Deputies later learned from the dispatcher that the 30-year-old victim had phoned them a second time, indicating that she had been struck in the face by a man, whom she identified as Lawrence Fogg. The woman also mentioned that the man had attempted to sexually assault her before he left the residence on foot.
Once deputies arrived in the neighborhood where the crimes reportedly took place, they spotted the suspect walking along the 100 block of Cordell Road and asked him to place his hands in the air.
At the time, Kitchens said he saw where the man had what appeared to be fresh blood stains on his T-shirt. The man later identified himself, the deputy said in his report.
The suspect was detained in a patrol car and taken back to the residence so that deputies could interview the victim. When deputies got there, they found the victim sitting on the front porch bleeding from the nose.
The victim told deputies that she and Fogg had lived together at the residence for approximately two years.
Fogg was arrested and taken to the Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center where he was jailed.
