Law enforcement authorities in Baldwin County are investigating the armed robbery of a convenience store at Lake Sinclair on Monday night.
Meanwhile, officers and detectives with the Milledgeville Police Department are probing separate shootings, one at a local motel on Christmas night and another one the day after Christmas, The Union-Recorder has learned.
In the armed robbery case, a man dressed in all-black clothing walked into the Circle K Store off U.S. Highway 441 near the Baldwin-Putnam county line about 9:45 p.m. Monday, according to Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Detective Maj. Brad King, head of the criminal investigation division.
During the robbery, a round was discharged from a gun inside the store, King said.
“No one was hurt,” King said. “It was just one single shot.”
The suspect was described as a young Black man with light skin and long dreadlocks.
King said the robber was wearing a mask with his black clothing.
Before leaving the store, the suspect robbed a clerk of an undisclosed amount of money.
King said the robber left the store on foot and then went around the corner of the building.
On Tuesday afternoon, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Detective Reid White, the case investigator, went back to the area to follow up on the case, King said.
Turning to the latest shooting cases, the one on Christmas night happened at the Economy Inn Motel, located at 1616 N. Columbia St.
A woman was reportedly robbed at gunpoint of 10 individual $20 bills, according to a police report.
“Apparently the victim knew the suspect based on the surveillance video that we saw,” according to Milledgeville Police Chief Dray Swicord.
The victim was shot at by the unknown assailant, but was not wounded, the police chief said.
“Witnesses said they heard four or five shots, but we never found any shell casings at the scene,” Swicord said.
An unrelated shooting incident in the city also remains under investigation.
It happened on Sunday in the 1400 block of West Hancock Street about 2:37 p.m.
In that case, a woman told police officers that someone shot at her.
The woman was not injured.
