GREENSBORO, Ga. — A 19-year-old Greene County man was arrested Sunday night on a murder charge after human remains were discovered earlier in the day in a wooded area in Greene County.

Local and state law enforcement authorities believe the body is possibly a person who previously had been reported missing by the DeKalb County Police Department in Decatur.

Greene County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Capt. Lee Stancill identified the suspect as Charli Rey Ramos. He was arrested on charges of malice murder and concealing the death of another.

Ramos, who was taken into custody by deputies and investigators and special agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 6 Office in Milledgeville on Sunday night, remained jailed Monday in the Greene County Law Enforcement Center.

Stancill, who also is a media spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said the sheriff’s office requested the GBI’s assistance, as well as their crime scene specialists to assist with the investigation of skeletal remains that were found in a wooded area, off Ga. Route 15 South in Greene County on Sunday about 1 p.m.

“The GBI is working with the DeKalb County Police Department due to a possible link to a missing person’s investigation out of DeKalb County,” according to a GBI press release.

Stanclll said the human remains were sent to the GBI Crime Laboratory in Decatur in an attempt to establish positive identification of the victim, as well as to determine cause of death.

The human remains were discovered behind a single-wide mobile home, Stancill said in a telephone interview Monday afternoon.

Stancill would not go into details about who or how the human remains were found.

“It is believed that this case is connected to a missing person’s case from the DeKalb County Police Department’s jurisdiction,” Stancill said.

He said it was hoped that the medical examiner would be able to share with authorities how long the body had been in the wooded area.

Meanwhile, the investigation is ongoing by both the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and GBI Region 6 Office in Milledgeville.
