A 17-year-old who had relocated from his former home in Milledgeville to Marietta was found shot to death at a residence in Cobb County early on the morning of July Fourth, The Union-Recorder has learned.
The victim was identified as Jalante Brown, according to a brief press release sent to the newspaper Tuesday by the Cobb County Police Department.
Brown was shot multiple times, police said.
Detectives with the Cobb County Police Department still had made no arrests in connection with the murder case as of Tuesday afternoon.
Police officers responded to a call of a shooting about 1:16 a.m. last Thursday, according to the press release. When officers arrived at a residence at 1333 Penny Lane, they discovered Brown’s body.
The newspaper reached out to the detective assigned to the case, but she declined to answer any questions related to the case. Instead, she referred all questions to the police department’s public information office.
Sydney Melton, a public information officer with the Cobb County Police Department, told the newspaper that no other information had been released about the case since the initial press release was sent out to Atlanta area media outlets July 5.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the case remained under investigation.
