Blossoms Florist, located at 227 Ivey Weaver Road, will be open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday.

A new family-owned and run flower shop is opening up to the public next week, hoping to fill a void left by a well-known flower shop that closed its doors in the last few years.

Blossoms Florist, which will open up at the old Sweet Treats business building at 227 Ivey Weaver Road, is hoping to fill a gap in the flower shop business after Lawrence’s Flower Shop, a well-known family owned and run flower shop, closed its doors.

Brandy Hudson Adams, who worked as a floral arranger at Lawrence’s Flower Shop for many years, is enthused about returning to her passion for flowers.

“I worked at Lawrence Flower Shop for five years and I’ve stayed home for the past two years to take care of my son Aidan,” said Hudson. “I just decided that it was time to get back in the floral business.”

Adams has lived in Milledgeville all of her life, and she is opening up the business as a joint venture with her mom, Sabrah Braddy.

The creativity of arranging flowers really makes the job worth its weight in gold, she said.

“It’s something different every day,” she said. “You can really put your creativity and personality into it.”

Blossoms Floral, she said, will offer modern designs with a hometown feel.

Adams also said she understands the importance of flowers in people’s everyday lives, and the floral shop’s motto — “When words escape, flowers speak” — speaks volumes about the importance of a gesture as simple as sending a loved one a flower arrangement.

“It’s a nice feeling,” she said of customers who remember and thank her for her arrangements. “It’s nice to have people remember what you’ve done.”

Blossoms will offer floral arrangements, plants and balloons for just about any occasion or holiday including birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, funerals, births and the like, she said.

Additionally, the shop will carry an array of gifts in the near future.

Small flower arrangements begin at $20, medium arrangements start at $30 and large arrangements start at $45.

Additionally, plants are available from $25 and up.

Adams hopes to continue the pleasure of serving customers in the Milledgeville area, just as she did when she worked at Lawrence’s Flower Shop, she said.

Blossoms Floral will be open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday.
