Baldwin High School is the site of the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) District 11 Honor Band event this week.

The honor band is made up of 314 students from across the district participating in various ensembles ranging from middle school concert to high school concert and jazz band. Each ensemble is led by a clinician/conductor that is selected by band directors within the district. The conductors take a few days to work on their pieces with the students before Saturday’s concert.

Baldwin County will be well represented at this year’s honor band event. Two BHS alumni — Leslie Minor Moon (Class of 1999) and William Kilgore (1991) — have been chosen to conduct. Current BHS band director James McMillan (2002) is serving as the host band director.

Along with the local alumni, 15 current BHS and four Oak Hill Middle School students made it through auditions to perform as part of the various ensembles.
