Detectives are following leads in the murder case of a 16-year-old who was found shot to death at The Milledgeville Manor Apartments in Baldwin County a week ago.
As of early Friday afternoon, authorities had made no arrest in connection with the shooting that happened last Saturday afternoon.
The latest shooting in the county took the life of Cuatez Jones, of Milledgeville, according to Baldwin County Coroner John Gonzalez.
Jones’ body was found by Deputy Sgt. T.J. “Thomas” Hargrove and Deputy Kimberly Kile shortly after they arrived at the scene to investigate a call of a shooting at the apartment complex, according to an incident report.
The case was immediately turned over to sheriff’s office detectives. One of those detectives was Bob Butch, who is now leading the investigation.
Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Detective Capt. Brad King said the victim was shot multiple times.
The coroner said he pronounced Jones dead at the scene shortly before 4:30 p.m.
The shooting took place in a path that runs between The Manor and McKinley Street, according to King, who heads the sheriff’s office criminal investigations division. The path is located near the entrance of the apartment complex on the Elbert Street side.
King said although the victim didn't live at The Manor that he frequented there a lot.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Brian Hargrove, who is a crime scene specialist with the GBI Region 6 Office in Milledgeville, was called to assist the sheriff’s office in processing the crime scene, King said.
Authorities still had not established an exact motive for the shooting as of Friday.
King said earlier this week that they had determined the shooting was not gang-related, though.
Authorities are still asking for the public’s help.
