Baldwin County authorities are looking for a man who walked away from his residence on Colony Farm Road last Wednesday morning and reportedly hasn't been seen or heard from since.
Foul play is not suspected, according to Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Detective Capt. Brad King, who heads the criminal investigations division.
The missing man is identified as 29-year-old Kevin Alexander Bass, of the 300 block of Colony Farm Road, according to an incident report filed by Baldwin County Sheriff’s Deputy Benjamin Forbus.
He was still missing as of Monday afternoon, King told The Union-Recorder in a telephone interview.
“At this point right now, we don’t truly have a location in which to search for him,” King said. “We’re getting some leads in as to possible sightings of him, but none of them have panned out.”
With information being put out via social media concerning the missing man, King said the sheriff’s office had received a few phone calls from people saying they thought they might have seen him.
“But again, none of that has panned out,” King said.
He is described as a white male, 5-feet-7 inches tall with red hair and weighing 160 pounds.
The man’s cellphone was last used about 5:30 a.m. last Wednesday, King said.
“That was the last outgoing phone information we had,” he pointed out. “It (phone) was still on as of last Thursday afternoon and sometime late in the evening on Thursday, it was either turned off or it died from lack of charging because it stopped collecting data.”
Bass left his residence on foot and later sent some text messages on his phone.
“He left his keys, his wallet, and his vehicle,” King said.
Members of the missing man’s family have formed voluntary search parties in hopes of finding their loved one.
“They have done that in a couple of locations,” King said.
Detectives have utilized a drone in an effort to find Bass but to no avail.
“The problem we have is that we do not have an actual starting point, other than his residence,” King said.
He said the drone flew around the area of one of the last phone pings or multiple ones.
King described the pings as “very low confidence, which could be a mile or more.”
Bass was reported missing by his mother, Dana, according to authorities.
She told authorities it was very unlike her son not to answer her phone calls.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Kevin Bass is asked to call 911 or the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office at tip line number at 478-445-5102.
