GREENSBORO, Ga. — An Atlanta man died from injuries he sustained after he was thrown out of a boat and hit by the boat’s propeller Saturday on Lake Oconee in Greene County, authorities say.
The victim was identified as Ian Clough, according to Cpl. Derrell Worth, a game warden with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division.
After being rescued from the water, the victim was taken by ambulance to St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital at Lake Oconee where he died a short time later, Worth said.
A man operating the boat at the time of the incident, Austin Martin, of Brookhaven, Ga., has been charged with operating a vessel while under the influence, Worth said.
Martin also was charged with allowing a person to ride bow/gunwale of a vessel, the game warden said.
He was later taken to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center in Greensboro where he was jailed.
“The incident is currently under investigation and additional charges are possible,” Worth said.
