The Milledgeville Area Patriots will honor local WWII veterans on Thursday, July 7 during a special program slated for 6 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church. The Patriots are inviting all local WWII veterans to the program and ask members of the community of they know of local veterans to recognize to call Janice Westmoreland at 478-387-5316 or email jwestmore@charter.net by June 24 so that a head count can be taken for those attending.

The East Lake Sinclair Auxiliary will hold its annual fish fry dinner fundraiser for the Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders at the East Lake Community Center located at 4029 Lake Sinclair Drive, Sparta, on Saturday, June 25, from 5 p.m. until sold out. The plates are $10 for adults and $6 for children under 10 and include fish, sides, a drink and dessert. There will be a raffle and a door prize.

The Milledgeville Police Department Explorer Post 139 will hold a raffle fundraiser on July 10. A $1 donation enters potential winners in the drawing for a chance to win a portable basketball goal or a 32-inch television. The raffle winner will be announced at a drawing at the police department, 125 W. McIntosh St. To purchase tickets call 478-414-4000. Raffle tickets are available at the police station.

The Baldwin County Chapter of the Fort Valley State University is currently receiving scholarship applications for the fall semester 2016. Any student from Baldwin County is eligible upon proof of acceptance from the university. Two scholarships will be awarded: The Louise S. Austin Memorial Scholarship and the Baldwin County Chapter Scholarship. Applicants may secure an application from their respective school counselor or principal. 10 and 11:15 a.m.: Learning in Retirement will meet at the Milledgeville Country Club. The board will meet at 10 a.m. followed by a Lunch and Learn. The guest speaker is Ashton Branch who works with Baldwin County Animal Control to find homes for dogs that are picked up to prevent euthanasia.
