Three major boat wrecks during the past year on Lake Sinclair that claimed the lives of three people has law enforcement officers calling for more boating laws.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said the time has come to require licenses for boaters and to impose a speed limit on Lake

Sinclair.

“Our problem with boating is that people do not know how to operate boats,” Sills said. “We require our kids to pass safety training to operate water vessels. It’s time for all boaters to learn boating safety before operating a vessel on our waterways.”

Three boat wrecks that took three lives in less than a year all occurred at night in the main channel of Lake Sinclair between U.S. Highway 441 and Sinclair Dam:
