While the Milledgeville Police Department tends to be watchful of the West Hancock Street area in downtown Milledgeville on Friday evenings, one man standing on the pedestrian islands in front of Buffington’s waving to passing cars drew little concern.

In fact, some MPD officers may have wanted to stop and ask him about the holiday season.

Santa Claus spent much of Friday visiting downtown businesses, listening to the wish lists of local children and spreading Christmas cheer among local

residents.

Santa was there as part of Milledgeville MainStreet’s “Merry MainStreet,” a program designed to attract economic and social attention to the downtown Milledgeville area during the busy holiday season.
