Painters began scraping old paint and preparing the wood siding of the historic Brown–Stetson–Sanford House for painting Tuesday morning.

Jay Hood, Neal McCoy and T.J. Johnson from Hood Painting scraped off old layers of paint and put new ones in their place.

“I didn’t realize the history of the house until we got started,” Hood said. “The old part itself is in good shape, but you’ve got to prep it good before you paint it.”

Restoration has commenced in Phase II for the 1825 Brown-Stetson-Sanford House on the corner of Hancock and Jackson streets.

Restoration funds are being provided by fundraisers and the special purpose local action sales tax (SPLOST).
