Three arrests in pawn shop break-in

MILLEDGEVILLE — Three men have been arrested and charged in connection to a break-in at a local pawn shop.

Police arrived at Northside Pawn Shop, 1101 North Jefferson St., around 1:46 a.m. Monday in reference to a burglary. According to a Milledgeville Police report, officers located a suspect hiding behind a door inside the business and he was taken into custody.

Once the interior of the business was cleared officers began collecting evidence and discovered a backpack and a computer bag just outside the front door of the pawn shop. Inside the bags police discovered several electronic items.

“It appears that the suspect(s) made entry by breaking out the front window, gathering up the bags of electronics and exiting through the rear door,” a press release on the break-in arrests states.

Police identified tire impressions near the back door of the business, and while checking the area, officers tracked them into Graham Homes. A police officer located a black Honda Accord on Highland Avenue, and while there were no occupants in the vehicle, the hood was still warm.

While searching the Graham Homes area, police made contact with residents who said there was a man standing on their porch. It was later determined that the man had allegedly fled from the Honda Accord prior to police arrival. The second suspect was also detained, and after additional questioning the third suspect was also identified.

Dartanyon Wheeler, 17, of an Evans Avenue address, John Grable, 20, of an Old Stage Road address and Reginald Johnson, 23, of a North Clarke Street address, have all been charged with one count each of burglary. Grable and Johnson have also both been charged with an additional count of giving a false name.

The vehicle was towed to the police department where it will be searched for additional stolen merchandise. Additional charges are pending.
