Creekside Elementary School teacher Dianna Perdue and her students have kicked off the annual Soles4Souls, Inc. shoe drive to benefit those in need overseas.
New and gently worn shoes, and children and teen clothing are being collected through the end of the month.
"I will take the donations to the warehouse again in Alabama," Perdue said. "We’re planning to go to Haiti the first week of April to take the items, and go back again in July with several members of the First United Methodist Church."
Items can be dropped off at Creekside, Blandy Hills Elementary, Eagle Ridge Elementary, Midway Elementary, Oak Hill Middle, Hardwick Baptist Church, Northridge Christian Church, First United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church.
"We want to thank the local Habitat for Humanity for assisting us with our collection," Perdue said, "and allowing us to store the donations with them until we travel."
The local Soles4Souls drive collected more than 1,200 pairs of shoes and 1,400 pounds of clothes last year.
