The Milledgeville Area Patriots will host an open meeting Thursday at Victory Baptist Church, where regionalism will be discussed.
Starting at 6:30 p.m., guest speaker Field Searcy will present his opinion on “How regionalism and public private partnerships are breaking down constitutionally limited self-government and the free enterprise system.”
Searcy is a native Georgian from the Cairo/Thomasville area. As a University of Georgia graduate majoring in real estate, he has more than 20 years experience in the real estate industry.
Thursday's guest speaker has an information technology-consulting firm in Marietta also.
Searcy is a researcher, citizen activist and co-founder and former board member of the Georgia Tea Party. Most recently he worked with the Transportation Leadership Coalition (TrafficTruth.net) to defeat the Regional Transportation Tax known as TSPLOST.
Searcy addressed his transportation concerns in a recent Atlanta Journal-Constitution article.
“We can blame the incredibly poor project selections in the regional governance-driven transportation referendum, which led to its failure. We can also blame the total lack of activity in the 2013 General Assembly pertaining to all things transportation,” he said in the article. “It is interesting that government can always justify building a new football stadium costing over $1 billion, but they cannot be motivated to produce more than one significant highway project out of the many we truly need.”
