Baldwin Democrats honoring educators

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Baldwin County Democratic Party's quarterly meeting Monday starting at 7 p.m. will honor current and former hardworking educators.

“We are taking some time to show appreciation to our teachers,” party chairman Quentin T. Howell said. “We are honoring all of our staff, faculty and administration of our public school system. Our teachers shape the minds of so many young people as they get ready to enter into society.”

All teachers are invited to get a well-deserved “thank you” and enjoy refreshments at Allen's Market located at 101 E. McIntosh St.

Outgoing Baldwin County Schools Superintendent Geneva Braziel will receive an honorary plaque for her “successful achievement of educating our youth in Baldwin County.”

Howell said no one in state or locally can probably say education is where anyone wants it to be.

“But we have some really hardworking people within our school system that don't ever get told thank you,” he said. “The Democratic Party is made up of a variety of educators, and we want to pay homage to that.”

Central Georgia Technical College Milledgeville Campus Director Brione Burrows is the evening's speaker.

“He'll talk to us about the importance of not just education, but the importance of the community involvement with education from a technical school, two-year school and a four-year school standpoint and how the public schools tie all of that together,” Howell said.

Education night falls into a county party goal of community focus.

“This is us reaching outside of party lines just on community lines. We want to stress that,” Howell said.

An open public forum with state school superintendent, secretary of state and insurance commissioner candidates follows Monday.

“We want to give the citizens and the educators that chance to ask direct questions,” the party chairman said. “The decisions they make are what the teachers are going to have to deal with. They have that venue here at home.”

Howell said the forum will be quick and informative for attendees.
