MILLEDGEVILLE — Good morning. Here’s a look at what’s happening today.





Weather: 





Sunny. Highs in the lower 90s. North winds 5 to 10 mph. Friday night clear in the evening then becoming partly cloudy. Lows in the upper 60s. Northeast winds up to 10 mph.

Best bet for today:

The Milledgeville Country Club and Mr. Bill Usery will present an Independence Day celebration. Fireworks will begin over Lake Sinclair around 9 pm. Bring your own picnic.

On this day:

The poem “America the Beautiful” by Katherine Lee Bates, a Wellesley College professor, was first published in the Congregationalist, a church publication, in 1895.

Upcoming events:

Georgia’s Old Capital Museum Society will host the eighth annual Artifact Identification Day in the museum’s

Native American Gallery July 12 from noon to 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and everyone who attends is invited to bring found objects or family heirlooms. Items can include, but are not limited to: rocks, Indian artifacts, pottery, farm implements and Civil War items.
