The City of Milledgeville will host its annual fireworks show at the Milledgeville Mall tonight when the sun goes down. The Fall Line Ramblers, a Milledgeville-based band, will perform in front of the mall at 6 p.m. and will play until around sunset. Former Milledgeville Idol winner Jon Peeler will accompany The Fall Line Ramblers and will sing the national anthem approximately three minutes before the show begins. Along with live music, there will be vendors, face painters and more for kids and their families to come enjoy.
On this day:
June is National Blueberry Month. What is so special about them? Well, to begin with, these berries are grown throughout a good percentage of the United States. More than 90 percent of all of the blueberries in the world are produced in our country, in 35 states. And the nutritional value of blueberries cannot be beat by any other fruit or vegetable. Blueberries are full of antioxidants, which have been scientifically proven to help reduce the risk of certain cancers and heart disease. They are also excellent sources of vitamins A and C, as well as potassium, folic acid, and fiber. Plus, they are low in calories-one cup of berries is only about 80 calories. And were you aware that blueberries are virtually fat-free, cholesterol-free, and sodium-free?
The Milledgeville Country Club and Mr. Bill Usery will present an Independence Day celebration. Fireworks will begin over Lake Sinclair around 9 pm. Bring your own picnic or preorder one from the club (preorders must be done by Wednesday, Juy 2, 478-452-3525).
