Summer program feeds kids for free

MILLEDGEVILLE —

Baldwin County public school students will be offered free meals during the summer months through the Seamless Summer Option program.

The Seamless Summer Option program is operated through the National School Lunch (NSLP) or School Breakfast (SBP) programs.

The objective is to continue operating the same meal service rules and claiming procedures used during the regular school year while offering a streamlined approach to feeding hungry children in the community.

The federally funded program is delivered to communities in which a majority of students qualify for free and reduced school lunches.

The summer food program is slated for June 2 through July 25.

Through the program, students 18 years-old and under can eat a free breakfast and lunch in Baldwin High School's cafeteria and at GNETS, located at 1300 B Orchard Hill Road, Monday through Friday.

No meals will be served Friday, July 4.

Breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The summer food program feeds several students in the area.

In previous years, more than 30,000 meals for breakfast and lunch were served to students over the summer through the program said Jeanne Starr, director of nutrition services.

A school bus will deliver and serve lunch only at the following sites:

Graham Homes at 11 a.m.;

Pine Knoll Apartments at 11:25 a.m.;

Duplex City at 11:45 a.m.;

River Bend Apartments at 12:10 p.m.;

The Manor at 12:40 p.m.;

Finnagan's Mobile Home Park at 1:05 p.m.;

5th Street Mobile Home Park at 1:30 p.m.;

Lockwood Mobile Home Park at 1:50 p.m.

For more information about the program, contact Starr at 478-457-3315.
