BOE picks finalist for superintendent

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Baldwin County Board of Education has chosen a finalist in its search for a new superintendent.

The lone finalist was selected from a field of three candidates to fill the school system leadership position.

With Superintendent Geneva Braziel's resignation, effective June 30, the board anticipates having a new superintendent in place before the start of the 2014-2015 school year in August.

The school board convened in executive session Saturday to discuss information gathered from the second round of interviews held last week. Candidate interviews were conducted each day per candidate.

After a detailed discussion in an executive session lasting approximately 40 minutes, the board agreed to make Dr. Noris Price the lone finalist in the superintendent search.

"There was a lot of good dialogue among board members, and we feel we have chosen a candidate who best fits the qualities we were looking for in a superintendent," said John Jackson, school board chairman, District 4.

Price is part of the superintendent administrative team of the Clarke County School District in Athens.

At the start of the search to fill the position, the board received more than 30 applicants for the job. The first round of interviews took place May 3 at the Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce office.

Four candidates were chosen out of the 30 applicants as possible hires for the position. Three of the four candidates were invited by the board to participate in the second round.

"Each round of interviews went well, and it was good that we had such strong applicants to choose from," Jackson said.

All candidates were highly qualified and possessed good qualities, he added.

When a selection of a finalist for superintendent is agreed upon and the board has publically announced the candidate, there is a 14-day window in which the candidate is contacted and contract negotiations are discussed. The Georgia School Boards Association will notify other candidates of the board's selection.
