Wireless Express armed robbery suspect in custody

MILLEDGEVILLE — Police officials have made an arrest in an armed robbery occurring at Wireless Express.

According to Maj. Reginald Hill, Milledgeville Police criminal investigations commander, Darron Saunders, 31, has been charged with two counts of armed robbery, possession of a firearm by convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony all in relation to the armed robbery incident.

A call came in to the Milledgeville Police Department around 1:28 a.m. Monday, May 12 from Wireless Express, located in the 1000 block of S. Wayne Street. The caller, the storeowner, reported being the victim of an armed robbery, allegedly committed by three men brandishing guns.

According to information from an incident report, the owner said he went outside the store to smoke a cigarette and as he walked back in three males rushed inside. The three men pointed guns at his head, he added. He was told by one of the men to lie on the ground face down. As he laid down, one of the men put a gun to the back of his head and demanded money, the report said.

The victim handed the men $1,000 in cash.

The men were described as two black males and one Hispanic male.

Hill said during the investigation one of the suspects, later identified as Saunders, was found at Pecan Hill Apartments.

"Officer Boyer noticed a vehicle parked on the premises. The vehicle was identified as one that the suspect was known to travel in," Hill said.

The vehicle and perimeter of the apartment complex were placed under surveillance until investigators could arrive.

Once at the location, Saunders was reportedly located inside an apartment and quickly taken into custody, said Hill.

The vehicle was towed to the police department so that a search warrant could be executed.

"Inside the vehicle, detectives recovered a firearm and a misdemeanor amount of marijuana."

The investigation is still ongoing as police continue to look for the other two men involved in the armed robbery.

Anyone with any information in reference to the robbery are asked to call the MPD Tip Line at 478-414-4413.
