GC Theatre students perform on Greenway stage

MILLEDGEVILLE — Georgia College Associate Theatre Professor Dr. Amy Pinney challenged her Acting III: Styles class at the Oconee River Greenway Thursday morning. Seven female students performed selections from Greek dramas and Shakespeare for their final exam. Pinney said her class relished the chance to be on an outdoor stage instead of being trapped inside each performance. Students rehearsed sound projection to make the audience feel every word. This is the first Georgia College class taking advantage of the newly constructed stage area. Thursday's successful monologues and group scenes preview what a future Greenway amphitheatre could be like. The stage and new entrance with a beautiful brick sign are just a sample of soon-to-be unveiled Phase 2 expansion. Newly created water overlooks with picnic tables, one mile of 10-foot concrete trails north of the river bridge and a 1.1-acre off-lease dog park are included. The grand opening has been pushed back from May 17 to June 7 with a rain date of June 14 also scheduled.
