Old Capital Museum set for 'Moonlight' event

MILLEDGEVILLE — Georgia's Old Capital Museum Society (GOCMS) has quite a memorable evening planned for the organization's third annual spring fundraiser Friday.

“Moonlight on the Capitol: Moonlight & Magnolias” lasts from 6 to 10 p.m. next Friday.

Donations and funds from the live auction event go to the museum's upcoming educational programming both at the Old Capitol Building and the Brown-Stetson-Sanford House.

Event chairperson Gloria Prance said, among notable auction items such as Atlanta Falcons tickets, trips and donated dinner events, a Big Green Egg grill from Ace Hardware shines.

The evening features a dinner of old southern favorites catered by Georgia Bob's. Reunion is back to play everyone's favorite dance music as well.

The event’s theme harkens to simple Southern past. White tables will dot Grant Parade Field outside of the Old Capital.

“We look forward each year to this event, and planning starts months in advance to make it a memorable evening,” Prance said. “Our theme, 'Moonlight & Magnolias,' is reminiscent of warm, scent-laden spring evenings spent outdoors in the South under the stars.”

GOCMS Executive Director Amy Wright said this is the first of two “major fundraisers” held each year to support the vital historical preservation operations.

“We welcome about 10,000 guests per year here at the museum and the Brown-Stetson-Sanford House,” Wright said. “Among those are seniors, school groups studying Georgia history and pre-schoolers that come for the Chipmunk Tours.”

“Moonlight” tickets are $50 for museum members and $55 for non-members. Tickets are available at the Old Capital Museum. Those interested can call 478-453-1803 or email sally@oldcapitalmuseum.org also.

Twenty-five dollars of each ticket is a tax-deductible donation in support of the aforementioned educational programs.

Grant Parade Field is located east of the Old Capitol Building on Old Statehouse Square at 201 E. Greene St. on the Georgia Military College campus.
