Lady Dogs notch two conference wins

MILLEDGEVILLE — Winning seven of their last eight games, the Georgia Military College Lady Dogs softball team appears to be on a roll as they reach the final stretch of their regular season.

GMC traveled to Barnesville, Wednesday to take on Gordon State College in a doubleheader, emerging victorious in both games to earn their second conference sweep in the past eight contests.

The Lady Dogs outscored the Highlanders 6-5 in game one and 7-5 in the second contest to wrap up the sweep.

“Very proud of the way the girls fought during both games,” head coach Ashley Mayhue said. “There were times that we were down during both games and had to find a way to make something happen and we did just that.”

In the first game, Alexis Boyd earned the win on the mound going six innings, giving up four runs and five hits, but earning two strikeouts.

Teammate Brittany Rosenberry came in late in the ball game to earn her second save of the season, allowing only one run by GSC.

Rosenberry showed her endurance for the Lady Dogs by coming back in game two and pitching a stretch of eight innings, giving up five runs and striking out two at the plate.

Offensively, Heather Tyler played well for GMC going 2-for-3 with two RBI and two stolen bases in game one, only to return in game two and finish 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs and three stolen bases.

Also contributing well for the team in game one of the two contests was Claire Crawford who went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a homerun, as well as Zhnarya Barr who ended the contest 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Game two saw Morgan Tippens step up with a 3-for-4 day at the plate, with a run and stolen base, followed by Morgan Long who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a stolen base.
