Woman flees GSP in patrol car

A Valentine’s Day traffic stop turned crazy for the Milledgeville Georgia State Patrol post.

A woman slipped out of her handcuffs, slid through a 12-inch rear window opening and sped off in a 2010 Dodge Charger patrol car for 15 miles reaching speeds well more than 100 miles per hour.

Sgt. MacKay Bloodworth with GSP Post 33 finally stopped the chase as it neared the Milledgeville city limits. A Precision Immobilization Technique (P.I.T.) maneuver ended 31-year-old Bobbi Nicole Bryant’s escape attempt.

“That’s the first time I’ve executed the P.I.T., and it happened to be on another patrol vehicle,” Bloodworth said.

The entire episode began at 11:15 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14 when Trooper First Class Michael Screws noticed a black Dodge pickup truck traveling west on Ga. 22 with a headlight out.

According to the report, the truck turned onto a long dirt driveway in the 700 block off the highway.

The vehicle sped up after the blue lights were activated.

Screws then realized the truck belonged to convicted felon.

“I had arrested the vehicle owner on active warrants a few months prior to this stop,” Screws said in the report. “Since the vehicle wasn’t stopping, I felt this stop might end in a confrontation.”

The truck finally pulled over at 735 Ga. Highway 22 East, and the driver door swung open. The female driver, Bryant, ran into the woods.

Screws caught her on foot soon after.

With the driver handcuffed “tightly” behind her back, the trooper detained the two passengers, Shane Cox, the truck owner, and Greg Torrance.

Both men have a lengthy criminal history based on the report.

Bryant said, “she ran because of local probation warrants.”

Baldwin County sheriff’s deputies arrived and placed the two men in separate patrol cars, according to the report.

Screws’ patrol car made contact with the back of the Dodge truck during the ruckus of the fleeing driver. He stated “in doing this, I did not get my vehicle all the way into park.”
