JMA cruises to playoff win

MILLEDGEVILLE — John Milledge Academy laid some punishing shots on the Brookwood Warriors in Friday's GISA AA playoff opening 30-6 victory.

“Defense was playing great. I didn't think that quarterback was going to get up a couple of times. The hat goes off to them. Those guys were laying the wood. If they play that way the rest of the year, we are good,” Trojan head coach J.T. Wall said.

Brookwood pressured Trojan quarterback Brantley Attaway out of rhythm in the first half. As a product, JMA's stout offense trudged along.

Cooper Morgan converted a fourth and one, before a short touchdown run provided the only first quarter score.

Hunter Harding was the first of many Trojans to rock the Warrior quarterback's bell. Dwayne Boone and Jesse Deariso followed with a sack.

Back near their end zone, Ryan Bresse blocked Brookwood's punt. Jeremy Pinkston recovered for a special teams score pushing the lead to 14-0.

“That punt return team is a pretty good one. When they are worried about punting it to Sealey, we can get some pressure,” Wall said. “We should have blocked about seven already this year. We finally got in there and got one.”

Both teams' defensive lines frustrated the quarterbacks in the second quarter. Attaway took two sacks before halftime.

The Warriors recorded another special teams mishap resulting in a safety.

JMA was up 16-0 at the break.

The Trojan offense did just enough to put the game out of reach in the third quarter. Heath McDonald and Andrew Hayes added to the hard-hitting highlights.

JMA stopped a fourth down play to open the quarter. Soon after, Heath Roberts caught a 16-yard touchdown pass.

Morgan ran through tackles like usual for his second touchdown at the 5:00 mark. JMA led 30-0.
