MILLEDGEVILLE — Baldwin County Fire Rescue Stations No. 1 and No. 2 responded to a structure fire on Ivey Drive at 4:04 a.m. Thursday morning.
According to county fire chief Troy Reynolds, the occupants first noticed flames around their furnace. Both elderly residents escaped with no major injuries though the family pet did perish in the incident.
The home is likely a total loss due to the fire making it to the attic. Fire officials hadn't completed an investigation by press time Thursday, therefore couldn't state the exact cause.
Firefighters contained the fire within 30 minutes.
Water from suppression did cause some ice on the nearby roadway.
