Chamber to share 2014 outlook with members

The Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce will host its annual membership meeting next week to share with members its outlook and goals for 2014 and celebrate last year’s accomplishments.

“Last year, our board of directors voted to move our fiscal year to a calendar year in order to align with more of our membership. Our annual business meeting has been part of our annual awards, which is the Blue Sapphire Gala [held in June],” said April Bragg, CEO of the local Chamber. “Our annual meeting is in the beginning of the fiscal year, so this is the first year we’re having this type of format.”

The event is slated from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23 at Central Georgia Technical College’s new conference center. Registration and a breakfast buffet will begin at 7:30 a.m. followed by an hour-long program at 8 a.m.

“We’re excited to have this new format. With our Eggs & Issues series, it’s been a good format to relay information to our membership,” Bragg said. “It’s a time when business leaders are available in the day.”

The program will include legislative updates, a presentation of the 2014 Chamber Board of Directors and ambassadors, an overview of the community strategic plan and introduction of its steering committee and task force members.

Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Brian Anderson will provide the keynote address stressing the importance of collaboration on community and economic development initiatives.

“[Anderson] is no stranger to Milledgeville. He has been a mentor to me in my role here. Dalton is very similar to Milledgeville in a lot of ways. They have turned the corner on recovery with the announcement of Engineered Floors coming on board,” Bragg said. “Elyse Cochran-Davis, who is our facilitator for our community strategic plan, worked hand-in-hand with [Anderson] in the Dalton region. We’re excited to have their experience and expertise and be part of us as we move our community forward.”
